The Winchester Folk Festival was held in the City over 11 - 13 May 2000 and comprised a series of Concerts, Ceilidh’s and Recitals in various parts of the City.
The most noticeable, and public, part of the Festival was the series of public displays held between 10.00 and 16.00 on Saturday 12th when a whole series of Folk Dance Troupes demonstrated their particular dance form in various
parts of the City. At 14.00 there was a Procession from Abbey Gardens, up the High Street, to the Cathedral. The day ended with a Massed Circassian Circle where as many people as possible were invited to join
in.
These pages give a flavour of a few of the many demonstrations given that day by the following Troupes. In no particular order we had... Alton Morris, Southsea Belles, Whitethorn Morris, Hook Eagle, Hampshire
Garland, English Miscellany, Woodfidley, New Forest Medlars, Cwmni Dawns, Werin Caerdydd, Basing Clog, Devils Jumps, Dorset Buttons, Spank the Planks, Chequered Flag, Knickerbocker Glory, Hale Cloggies, Hursley International,
Wickham Morris, Mary Rose & Royal George, Southern Lights, and displays by Winchester Scottish Displays and Dancing for All. (Apologies to any we missed!) Click on any of the following thumbnails for a larger image...
